So, you have a plan. You know what you want. You know the steps you need to take to make it happen. Why isn’t it working?
At Retail Level Up, we work with clients who are in situations just like this. They have clear goals. Most have figured out the action steps to achieve those goals, but they kept falling short; until they came to work with us. Here is an example. A client came to us wanting help with starting an online subscription-based business. She knew exactly what she wanted to do. She knew what she needed to do to make it happen. The first week working together she laid out the steps she needed to take. She came back the next week and she had nailed it! She completed all of her tasks. The next week, same thing, she again planned out what she needed to do. When we met the following week, her results were quite different; she had not completed any of her tasks. What had held her back? Nothing. She had the time to work on her tasks, she had all the tools she needed. What obstacles had she run into? The only obstacle holding her back, was herself!
Researchers have estimated between 80% to 95% of the activities we engage in on any day are on autopilot; they are habits. We build routines, we have ways of doing things. Routines help us be very productive and efficient. Without routines and habits, we would waste valuable time by having to consciously make decisions on every little thing. If you had to consciously stop and think, and carefully consider all of the infinite choices that you have in all the different activities that you do in a day, you would be exhausted before you even had your first cup of coffee! Routines and habits are great, until you want to make a change. When you want to make a change, you have to build a new connection in your brain, which takes effort. And then let’s add one more little thing, our ego. This is not the “I am so wonderful” ego. This the primal ego, think “fight or flight”. This ego’s job is to keep us safe. This is the part of our brain that hits the brakes the moment we attempt to try something new. The ego’s sole purpose is to keep us alive. When we throw any kind of change into the mix, the ego’s response is “Nope, no changes! Change could kill us!” That is why anytime we try to introduce a change, it takes a lot of effort.
So, how do you get past this? This is when a coach can help. A coach has the tips, the tools, and the resources to help you get past your ego. A coach helps you break your goals down into smaller steps, and helps you achieve small wins. Once you are having those small wins, you start gaining the momentum to build those new habits that will lead you to success and fulfillment when you reach your goals.
Our client who came to us for help with creating her online subscription business (Wine4Uonline.com) found the coaching process to be just what she needed. She overcame her obstacles, worked diligently on establishing new habits, and successfully launched her new business which continues to gain new members every month.
So, if you have developed a plan, and you know the steps you need to take, and yet you are still struggling to make it happen, reach out to Retail Level Up. Our coaching process can help you get past what is holding you back and put you on the path to success.
