The Biggest Gap In The World

Why do some people achieve so much, and others don’t? Why is it that a group of people can all attend the same workshop, learn the same stuff, be all excited about these new learnings, and yet less than 15% of those who attended will ever do anything with that information? Do these high achievers have better circumstances? Are they just lucky?

If Only, Stop waiting around and Do Something.

If only. All of us have a tendency to look at our circumstances or situations as being responsible for where we are today. We tend to look outside of ourselves to lay blame, rather than looking in the mirror. If only I had more money. If only I wasn’t a single parent raising 2 kids on my own. If only the job market was better. It’s easy to become the victim. But waiting for these outside factors to improve is a total waste of time and energy.

Take the leap. I recently lead a Mastermind Group and one of the participants, Sally*, shared that she was unhappy in her job. And not just with her job, but also her marriage. She and her husband worked together in the family business. She felt stifled and stuck. But Sally realized that everything we do in life is a choice. There really are no have-to’s. Even in environments where there are requirements of you, you still have choice. After much discussion and counseling, Sally made the courageous decision to leave her unhappy marriage as well as the job she didn’t enjoy. With two young children, a family business to split up, and a new career to be found, life for Sally went from tough to truly challenging.

Take the Leap, Try More.
The Net Appears when you step out in Faith.

And the net will appear. An amazing thing happened to Sally. She discovered she had internal resources she didn’t know she had. She felt empowered. She moved from a feeling of burden and resistance, to freedom and possibilities. Sally developed mental honesty and courage to own her own thinking, actions, and results. The most important factor that made this change successful for Sally, was a 2-step process: she made the decision, and then she took action.

Impossible to possible. A commonality that successful people have is the ability to imagine what they want, and the actions that can help them achieve it. The first step is imagining that what you want is possible. Henry Ford said, “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” Start out by asking “What if?” It’s important to start with the vision. Once you have that image, you are better able to envision that it would be possible. You begin to realize the benefits that you would gain from this new reality. With this new belief, you are then able to start planning the how.

Impossible to Possible must start with believing.
The Pit of Despair and how to get out of your comfort zone.

The pit of despair. Change is uncomfortable. Our subconscious is on constant lookout for anything that causes us discomfort and will throw up all kinds of roadblocks to keep us safe, secure, and in our comfort zone. That’s why it’s so hard to lose the weight, ask for the promotion, or volunteer to give the presentation. Yet stretching beyond our comfort zone is the only way to grow. Once you’ve seen the vision of what you want, and you are taking the steps to make it happen, you have to watch out for the stumbling blocks that your own brain will put in your way. This is the point when many will quit. Keep pushing through. You’ll be so happy you stuck it out!

The biggest gap in the world. Knowledge is great, but it’s worth nothing if you don’t do something with it. Imagine the what. Plan the how. And then do it. Just start. Today.
